Why it exists
While developing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne reports (UBEs), internal data selections written with the Set User Selection system function can get tricky. Everything is fine when you only have AND conditions. The moment an OR condition joins the mix, the whole equation changes.
You have to write the OR conditions in conjunction with the AND ones, and if you miss a single step, the results are wrong. So I built a tool to write them for me.
Have multiple ANDs and ORs across different tables that you want to use in Set User Selection? This tool tells you how to write them, in sequence.
What it can do
Add fields and values
Use “+ Add field” to add each field you want to filter on, then enter one or more values for each.
Turns multiple values into OR groups
Set User Selectioncannot use parentheses, so the builder expands the combinations into separate AND blocks joined by OR. SQL evaluates AND before OR, so the grouped logic you meant is preserved.Keeps single values on every block
A field with one value is ANDed onto every block, so it always applies.
Joins to an External Data Selection
If your report already has an External Data Selection, choose how the first condition joins it. AND returns only records that satisfy both. OR returns records that satisfy either one.
Generates the rows for you
The
Set User Selectionrows are written automatically, in the order you need to enter them.Shows how big it gets
The number of blocks is the product of each field’s number of values. A field with 2 values and another with 3 make 6 blocks, so adding multi-value fields grows the output quickly.
How to use it
Add your fields
Click “+ Add field” and add each field you want to filter on.
Enter the values
Enter one or more values for each field.
Choose the join
If an External Data Selection exists, pick AND or OR for how the first condition joins it.
Follow the generated selection
Review the Generated selection section and write the rows into
Set User Selectionin the order shown.
Good to know
- Blocks multiply: 2 values and 3 values make 6 blocks, and each extra multi-value field multiplies the total again.
Set User Selectioncannot use parentheses, so a grouped condition is written as separate AND blocks joined by OR. The builder does that expansion for you.
